Community Spotlight: Phoebe Pierce

Phoebe is a freelance travel journalist, and she works in Consular Affairs in San Francisco, California. She writes about travel in Egypt, wellness, and astrology. She is from California’s San Francisco Bay Area and went to college at Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York. She studied bellydance in Egypt and teaches classes on Women's Intuition and Wellness.

What is your favorite travel destination?

Luxor, Egypt.”

What is the best recent trip you’ve taken?

“The best recent trip I've taken was to Cairo, Egypt, for Ahlan Wa Sahlan International Bellydance Festival in the heat of July. I love exploring Downtown Cairo, going up and down the Nile on a Felucca when the sun sets, and dancing with bellydance performers from all over the world.”

How would you describe your travel style?

“I love the combination of adventure and wellness travel because I love lots of exciting exploration with restorative wellness experiences. I also love social travel, travel meetups, and retreats, where I can meet new people that share common fascinations.”

Who is your favorite travel partner?

“I am always making new travel buddies. Recently my friend Leon has been my favorite travel partner because he is adventurous and friendly. He's open to experiencing fun things, curious, and makes me laugh along the way. Whether I go solo or with a friend, I will make new friends along the way.”

Why do you want to learn to Be A Travel Writer?

“I am interested in travel writing because I want to provide exciting and accessible coverage on locations that are underrepresented. I want to share my experiences with people, to create community in our passions and travel experiences. I also have a strong interest in uncovering unusual places with significant history, as a way to spark others’ curiosity, and develop interesting conversations and relationships.”

How are you finding the BATW course?

“I have learned so much from the course, and I love it. I am really developing how to create strong, and well-founded ideas with adequate research and interest. This is important to me because I am learning how to provide meaningful journalism.”
