FAQs

How long will I have access to the course?

Forever! Once you purchase a class, e-book, or the full suite, it’s yours to keep. Remember, if you sign up for the full suite, you also get access to all future classes at no additional cost!

Do I need a journalism degree?

No, you don’t. Being a great writer doesn’t require a degree. While we both deeply value journalism programs we also know they can fall short for real-world practice, which is exactly why we created this course.

Is the class beginner-friendly?

Absolutely! New writers are totally welcome here. We suggest the full suite option so you can learn every little detail about becoming a paid writer.

How was this course created?

Great question! Stacey holds an undergraduate degree in education and is finishing her PhD focused on journalism education. She and Nina created the course using the “scaffolded learning model” to best help students build new skills. Please feel free to email Stacey to ask for specifics — she LOVES to talk about course creation!

What if I’m a seasoned writer?

You’re welcome here too! Our individual classes and e-books are great for refreshing skills. You may also find value in our weekly job board and free weekly newsletter.

Can this course help me get published?

Yes! Our students have gone on to publish in a range of magazines and sites, including National Geographic, Travel + Leisure, Afar, Conde Nast Traveler, Marie Claire, Food & Wine, and more. While we can’t make guarantees, we will say we’ll do everything in our power to help you make it happen.

What to Expect From Our Classes

What this class is:

The How to Be a Travel Writer course is exactly what you make of it. Take one class to brush up on a specific skill (like our digital writing, pitching editors, honing your beat, or building your social following classes), or take all eight classes in one to learn every little detail about becoming a travel and lifestyle writer.

What this class is not:

It is not a magic ticket. There isn’t a shortcut to success — it takes a lot of hard work to build a career in travel journalism. That said, there are skills you can master to give you a major leg up, and we’re here to share them. What you do with your newfound knowledge is up to you, but we love to see our students succeed and are here to help every step of the way!

What’s most important to us:

What we value above all is equity and inclusion in the community we are building with How to Be a Travel Writer. With that, we make sure to pay everyone who helped create this class for their time and effort. That means the guests in each class are paid and receive a portion of the profit, and the writers for our blog are paid as well. You should never work for free as a writer. We’d never expect our contributors to do so, either.
